The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into an incident on United Airlines flight 2428, where two passengers were injured after the pilots responded to a midair collision warning.
The flight, descending into San Francisco International Airport from Newark on Thursday, slowed its descent due to another aircraft at a lower altitude.
One passenger sustained serious injuries, and another had minor injuries. The traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) warning required immediate action, though the FAA confirmed no loss of safe separation between the aircraft.

Data shows a Southwest Airlines flight was 3,000 feet below, and a SkyWest flight 1,000 feet lower. United Airlines confirmed the seatbelt sign was on at the time, but one injured passenger was not seated.
The National Transportation Safety Board is gathering information on the incident, part of a series of near-collisions this month.
