The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has approved Kogi State’s proposal to build an international airport in the Zariagi community.
The approval was communicated in a letter dated October 9, 2024, according to Kingsley Fanwo, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications.
The administration of Governor Usman Ododo aims for timely project completion while adhering to regulatory standards.
The new airport will serve ten neighboring states, alleviating congestion on the Lokoja-Abuja road and reducing traffic at Abuja’s International Airport.
Governor Ododo emphasized the project’s potential to boost the state’s economy, create jobs, and elevate its status as an aviation hub.

The airport will also have cargo capacity, aligning with the state’s strategic position in the aviation market.
