In a significant bust, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officers have intercepted a container laden with 1,072 kilograms of cannabis valued at N3 billion.
The illicit shipment, originating from Canada, was seized in collaboration with the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking.
Alongside the cannabis, authorities confiscated 877 cartons of cough syrup containing codeine imported from India. The total street value of the intercepted substances is estimated at N3,216,000,000.
In a coordinated effort to curb illicit activities, the NCS also seized 877 cartons of Barcadin cough syrup with codeine and 82 cartons of extra diclofenac sodium 50mg tablets from the same shipment originating in India.
The NCS emphasized its commitment to working closely with both national and international agencies to intercept illegal goods and disrupt criminal networks.
Investigations into the matter are currently underway, with assurances that perpetrators will face legal consequences.
