Global passenger demand for air travel increased by 21.5% in February, up from 16.6% in January, according to the International Air Transport Association’s February 2024 report.

This surge was accompanied by an 18.7% increase in available seat kilometres, a load factor of 81.6%, and a 26.3 per cent increase in international demand for travel.

The aviation sector’s resilience in attracting more passengers and expanding capacity amidst challenges is commendable.

However, Nigeria’s currency devaluation and soaring aviation fuel prices have led to increased ticket fares, leaving Nigerian travellers struggling with high costs.

The industry is still recovering from the negative impact of the COVID-19 outbreak, with analysts predicting it will take until the end of 2024 for it to fully recover to pre-pandemic levels.
