Nigeria’s government is planning to sell three jets in its Presidential Air Fleet (PAF) as part of a cost-cutting drive amid economic recession.
President Tinubu ordered the fleet of six aircraft and four helicopters to be scaled back amid concerns about ballooning costs. The planes are the costliest to maintain and were previously attempted to sell in 2016 under former president Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Nigeria has been grappling with a cost-of-living crisis since President Tinubu removed a fuel subsidy as part of budget deficit-reduction reforms.
To control administrative expenses and prioritize financial stability, President Tinubu has issued a directive to suspend all publicly funded international travel for government officials. The cost-cutting program began on April 1 and will continue for three months.
