Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Managing Director Fidet Okhiria announced plans to start passenger and freight train services from Port-Harcourt-Aba, Lagos to Kano in Q1 2024.
The company plans to increase the number of train trips to six on Lagos-Ibadan, Warri-Itakpe, and Abuja-Kaduna, making them six trips in a day.
The company will also begin six daily Standard Gauge Train trips across the country before Q2 2024.
Okhiria emphasized the need for continuous operation due to security concerns and the need for passenger and freight trains to operate at all times.
He also mentioned a vandalism issue at Warri-Itakpe area in 2023, which was resolved two weeks later.
The NRC plans to partner with all dry ports to reduce business time and increase government revenue. The NRC has employed junior staff from levels four and six to enhance operations.
