The African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) has called on African governments to urgently implement the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) to enhance economic and social integration, grow the economy of African states, and improve the welfare of Africans.
The call was made during the 24th Yamoussoukro Decision (YD) Day Anniversary held in Abuja, Nigeria, during the Yamoussoukro Week event.
The high-level Ministerial meeting highlighted the continent-wide efforts to open Africa’s air transport market for the benefit of African airlines and economies under the SAATM Pilot Implementation Project (SAATM-PIP).
AFCAC’s Secretary General, Adefunke Adeyemi, encouraged governments and stakeholders to contribute to the implementation of SAATM and its socio-economic benefits.
The Yamoussoukro Week brought together AU (African Union) Member States, African and global aviation institutions, Regional Economic Communities, airlines, airports, air navigation services providers, technical and financial partners, industry associations, and other aviation stakeholders to network and discuss the most effective way to fast-track SAATM implementation.
