Ghana is targeting e-visa launch and 2026 FIFA World Cup promotion to drive major tourism growth this year.
The e-visa World Cup tourism growth plans were confirmed directly by President John Dramani Mahama and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Ghana now positions itself as West Africa’s most digitally accessible tourism destination ahead of the world’s biggest sporting event.

President Mahama confirmed the Ghana e-visa platform rollout during his 2026 State of the Nation Address.
“Significant progress has been made in the design and procurement phases of a national electronic visa platform, with a targeted rollout planned for 2026.”
Additionally, Foreign Affairs Minister Ablakwa said:
“The government, acting on the instruction of President John Dramani Mahama, will introduce an e-visa regime in early 2026. We are also creating special dispensations for Africans in the diaspora so they do not pay the same fees as others and can travel to the motherland with ease.”
The Ghana e-visa World Cup tourism growth strategy covers short-stay travel for tourism, business, conferences and family visits allowing applicants to submit forms and supporting documents entirely online.
Process
Ghana’s Black Stars have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, a milestone the government is actively leveraging to promote Ghana as a top sports tourism destination and to attract foreign investments.
Ablakwa pledged hassle-free visa access for Ghanaian fans travelling to the tournament:
“This will help us raise the revenue needed to support national development.”
The United States Embassy in Accra released over 1,000 B1/B2 visa interview slots in a single week ahead of the tournament, signaling strong bilateral support for Ghana e-visa World Cup tourism growth.
