The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has officially announced that the 2026 World Cargo Symposium (WCS) will convene under the theme “Advancing Air Cargo in a Dynamic World.

This premier global event for the air cargo industry is scheduled to take place from 10 to 12 March 2026 in Lima, Peru, at the Lima Convention Center.

Hosted by LATAM Cargo, it marks the first time the symposium has been held in South America. In light of ongoing shifts in global trade—driven by tariffs, geopolitical uncertainties, and evolving supply chain dynamics—the 2026 edition will provide a critical platform to assess current conditions and chart a path forward.

Air cargo demand exhibited a 3.4% growth in 2025, a trajectory influenced heavily by these factors, with similar challenges anticipated in the coming year.

As Willie Walsh, IATA Director General, noted: “Tariffs and geopolitical uncertainty have reshaped global trade and supply chains. The 3.4% growth pattern in air cargo demand in 2025 was strongly influenced by these developments and we can expect more of the same for 2026. This year’s WCS will focus on further strengthening air cargo’s ability to respond quickly and effectively as trade lanes shift and the value of speed and reliability across the supply chain grows.”

The program will center on three key streams:

  • Regulatory priorities, encompassing security, operational standards, and compliance frameworks essential to safe and efficient global movement.
  • Digitalization, addressing advancements in warehouse innovation, Internet of Things (IoT) integration, tracking technologies, and other tools enhancing transparency and efficiency.
  • Special cargo, with emphasis on sustainable practices, handling of perishables, pharmaceuticals, live animals, and other high-value or time-sensitive shipments.

Andres Bianchi, Chief Executive Officer of LATAM Cargo, emphasized the significance of the location:

Air cargo plays a vital role in connecting South America to global markets and supporting the region’s trade and economic development. Hosting the World Cargo Symposium in South America for the first time is a recognition of the region’s growing importance in global air cargo.

LATAM Cargo is proud to support a forum that brings the industry together to advance regulatory priorities, digitalization, and the evolving demands of special cargo in a dynamic global environment. We look forward to connecting with our partners and stakeholders in Lima to drive meaningful progress across the industry.”

The symposium will feature plenary sessions, specialized workshops, panel discussions, exhibitions, and extensive networking opportunities, drawing airline executives, freight forwarders, regulators, technology providers, and other stakeholders.

It offers a timely opportunity to address resilience, innovation, and collaboration amid an increasingly complex global landscape.

Registration is now open via the official IATA website.

This historic gathering in Lima underscores South America’s rising prominence in the air cargo sector and promises substantive dialogue to shape the industry’s future.
